Really does it matter what they are called? there are a few more names floating around, not the point. There is a fundraiser currently happening around that supports Breast Cancer Awareness (one of many). They sell t-shirts and bracelets that state I love boobies. My daughter bought 3 of the bracelets. For herself, her grandmother and her brother. Impressive considering, I know how much allowance she receives and she used her OWN money.
So this morning when I ran across this news story about it. Instead of the schools supporting their students, they are punishing them, I was a little upset! Go read it, it’s ok, I’ll wait!!
Back? Great, thanks
I was a little upset that the reason for the ban was not because the stuff was inappropriate or offensive but because kids are buying them ’cause they are immature!!! Really? ‘coz I know grown men that still giggle when someone talks about bewbs! So really, to ban something that supports a worthy cause cuz kids are immature….that is just DUMB!! Second, they are high school kids, of course they are immature, DUH
This is a great idea, I think. Really, it’s fun and it supports a great cause. The Keep A Breast foundation is the group that the receives the proceeds from the sales. Currently, they are running an art exhibit and they were at the Vans Warped Tour. They are a non-profit seeking to inform the younger generation of the effects of breast cancer and that breast cancer doesn’t discriminate if your 12 or 46!! Their whole target audience is the younger generation. Loser Kids is donating a 100% of the proceeds of all the ” I Love Boobies” merchandise to Keep a Breast. For the most part, all the merchandise is available in shops frequented by teens and young adults. I know my daughter bought hers at PacSun.
As I googled the term, I see that there are several news stories of teens being punished for wearing this type of clothing/bracelets to school and frankly, I was slightly flabbergasted. How can anything that supports such a worthy cause be punished? Are the schools sending the message that teens shouldn’t get involved in worthy causes or that they should only support their causes after school? I am in AWE of my children when they step up to support something, especially this something! My daughter, is a woman, the chances of her having breast cancer are a little higher than most, since she has the genetics for it. As a parent, as a mother, I am proud that my children as socially aware of what is going on, that they want to take part in the world.
I will support my children wearing their bracelets. I will fight the school should they decide that they are going to punish my child for supporting something she believes in. I hope that you too, will support this worthy cause and take a look at what messages the schools are sending to our children, when they decide to step up for a cause!
*Once again, my blog and my opinion. Feel free to disagree ohhh and go buy a bracelet, you may get a few giggles!!
